Choosing the right engine type can sometimes be harder than choosing your favorite car. With so many options today, there is no right or wrong choice. What matters is that it works for you and your needs. At Posner Park Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM, we want to help you find the perfect engine for you.

We won’t go into all the details of how an engine works; the most important part is why. When your engine is converting fuel to power, it is making your vehicle run. This power is generated in your vehicle’s cylinders. Therefore, when you see a reference to a vehicle’s cylinders, you know more cylinders equals more power. On the flip side, more power generally equals less fuel efficiency.

These numbers are not concrete, however. Lots of other things can play into your engine’s performance, as well as how efficient your vehicle can be. You can turbocharge your engine to help with both. Plus, proper maintenance of your vehicle will always help its performance.

Engine Types

  • Four-Cylinder – A four-cylinder engine uses four chambers to generate power. These vehicles are usually the most fuel-efficient since they are smaller and don’t convert as much power.
  • V6/V8– Vehicles with six or eight cylinders typically have more power. These vehicles have two engine blocks in the shape of a ‘V’ with either three or four chambers on each.

Vehicle Examples

A lot of vehicles come with several options, so you can choose which works best for you. For example, the Chrysler Pacifica, RAM 1500, Dodge Charger, and Jeep Grand Cherokee can have a V6 or V8.
